The Mumbai:

On Monday, Maharashtra reported its 10th case of Omicron. Will the state government re-impose lockdown-like measures to prevent the spread of the new Covid variant? The following is what state health minister Rajesh Tope said about the issue. According to Tope, the Maharashtra government is closely monitoring the situation and any decision on re-imposing restrictions will be taken only after consulting the Centre and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, amid rising concerns over cases linked to a new variant called Omicron.

Tope told reporters in Jalna that restricting the activities allowed currently in the state would be inconvenient for the people. If restrictions are imposed on the activities currently permitted, it would be too inconvenient for the people. Hence, we will keep an eye on the situation and make a decision (on curbs) following the guidance of the Centre and the (state COVID-19) task force, based on what the chief minister thinks," he said.

Schools that have not reopened yet should start holding classes in person, says Tope. He also recommends observing COVID-19-appropriate behavior in daily life. Due to Omicron, a new Coronavirus variant, the state is focusing on vaccines, the minister explained.

Maharashtra reports 10 cases of Omicron Covid variant disease, but Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope says there is no need to panic as the new strain is of low severity. Also ruling out the possibility of Covid restrictions as of now, Tope said earlier this week that such measures will only be taken after the Centre and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray weigh in.

In Maharashtra, there have been a total of 10 cases of Omicron. We are awaiting the results of 65 swabs sent for genome sequencing. Tope told reporters on Wednesday that screenings are being conducted at international airports.
